it's not that i don't think that "irredeemable media" doesn't exist, it's just that whenever i hear the phrase the first thing that comes to mind is stuff like...idk...the turner diaries and not stuff like hazbin hotel

My first thought for media you can’t salvage would be stuff so incredibly dumb that there’s no way to patch the plot holes.

I was shitposting the other day over on hell.socialmedia about a book I'm reading having overlap in set-up and themes with de Sade-Novels, and then there's people who are like 'nuuu this cartoon is the evelest thing to ever exist' like damn ... must be nice, actually? In your head? I mean, boring, too, but at least Justine and Juliette aren't living rent-free in it.

Idk a lot of discourse feels ... so sheltered. Which sounds condescending, but how are Stephen Universe and Hazbin Hotel and AoT and whatnot the most monstrous things these people have ever come across?

I feel you. I also think "irredeemable" is used to mean two very different things at the same time, conflating them -- both media that only aims to advocate for bad things, and also media that is without artistic merit, ending up with a "this works messages render it wholly without artistic merit" or "the lack of artistic merit means this show has bad messages".

So, like, still not Hazbin Hotel, lol

Oh, there's also plenty of fancops who have read/watched more hard-core stuff and don't consider those as bad either b/c they're for adults or simply b/c they could see the nuance in them. Many of them haven't even watched the shows they consider the worst offenders, they just blithely repeat what their friends say and don't check for themselves.
