i just can't vibe with either pro-shumikas or anti-shumikas because the antis are like THIS SHIP IS ABUSIVE IF YOU SHIP THIS HORRIBLE ABUSIVE SHIP GO DIE BITCH and that's...not good. because i ship it, but the pro-shumikas are like THIS SHIP IS LOVELY AND WONDERFUL AND PERFECT AND HEALTHY NOT A SMIDGEN OF CODEPENDENCY HERE

and i'm just here like "yes, this ship is very very unhealthy and codependent and fucked up, BUT THAT'S THE BEST PART"

"This ship is a total garbage fire with no healthy aspects" is often part (or the entirety) of the appeal! I see the mindset in a lot of fandoms: the shippers (who are... actually really heavily into anti thinking) insist that a ship is totes healthy as justification for shipping it.

Yeah, I just feel so bad for these people (and a lot of them are teenagers) going "I really like this ship because of how strongly they're drawn to each other NOT BECAUSE THEY'RE CODEPENDENT I just like the special dynamic they have- NOT BECAUSE IT'S DRENCHED IN DOLLLIFICATION AND 24/7 DOM/SUB I also love how Shu slowly grows to be less of an asshole NOT THAT HE WAS EVER AN ABUSER TO BEGIN WITH"

This fandom is just drenched in anti culture and I hate it.

I am not kidding when I say that this kind of thinking really makes me worry about these mostly-teens being vulnerable to predators, far more than anyone who's like "yep, this is a fucky abusive dynamic full of hate sex and deep issues, I like it despite/because of that".

Haven't, like, dozens of antis been outed as sexual abusers by now?
