i know i've complained about this before, but i hate when people go "oh if you ship (m/f ship) and not (m/m or f/f ship that shares characters) then you must be a homo/lesbophobe" because it just assumes that these two ships are exactly identical beyond the genders of the people involved and it just pisses me off- like do you honestly think these dynamics are so interchangeable that the only reason to prefer one ship over the other would be the difference in their genders?

Based on how these people act, yeah, I think a number of them (not all) DO find most ships to be interchangeable except for gender/race/other privilege and power dynamics.

I remember seeing one person very insistently writing (and at least a few people uncritically reblogging) "if you ship this white man/white man ship, you HAVE to include this WOC (an ex/good friend) or else you're racist" as if the dynamics of a same sex OTP are the same as of a mixed-gender OT3.
