me, pre reading a good chunk of "under tides": i don't really get why people are raving about arknights' story? sure you can read a lot into it, but it just seems like a boring excuse plot to me?

I legitimately struggle with interpreting Arknights. There are so many scenes where one character is trying to communicate something to another character, but neither of them actually wants to say it, so they keep dancing around the subject and you have to guess what they’re even talking about. Even the narrator gets in on this, and it feels like something from one of my college lit classes.

(I’m the kind of person who likes to directly say the thing everyone’s avoiding, even if it embarrasses me as well. I don’t do conversational fencing; I do conversational suicide bombing.)

This was interesting, because it made me realize that it's not so much that I specifically like that style of writing, but that any time that I get the impression that the author is directly stating something that would work better unsaid, then I get twitchy because I feel like they're making assumptions about my intelligence.

Also, I like figuring stuff out. That's probably why I like both the gameplay and story- they both let me figure stuff out.
