i think that if there is a nigh-universal piece of fanon, and you, by which i mean m stardustrifle, hate that fanon because it involves actively reading against the text/a misinterpretation of what actually goes on on screen, and someone writing a piece of expanded universe material decides to make that piece of fanon not simply canon but integral to the piece of expanded universe material they wrote, you (again by which i mean m stardustrifle) should be allowed to kill and eat that creator

Huh. My first guess based on the complaint would be Final Fantasy VII, but my first guess based on your posting habits would be Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Based on other people’s complaints, I think the expanded universe changed characters’ innate personalities and tendencies so they were more like what they pretended to be or were pressured to be. E.g. the awkward guy who tries to seem like a cool badass becomes a cool badass. I never played any of it myself, so I don’t really know.
