So, originally, I just passed off the "NB means non-black, so all nonbinary people who aren't black are just appropriating" as yet more Uninformed Tumblr Bullshit. Like. My friend. The English alphabet has 26 letters, so statistically, there would be overlap between the nigh-infinite number of acronyms we've created for our purposes.

Like, "RPG" can mean either "Rocket Propelled Grenade" or "Role-Playing Game". "CBT" can be either "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" or "Cock-and-Ball Torture".

This isn't rocket science.

Then I started thinking.

Remember the last time people on Tumblr started claiming that the terminology of one minority group (one which is primarily hated by exclusionists) was actually an appropriation of another minority group's terminology (one which exclusionists at least PRETEND to be down with)?

It was the fucking "aspec means autism spectrum, so all the aces and aros who are using it to mean 'asexual and/or aromantic spectrum' are appropriating!" discourse.

Which makes me pretty fucking suspicious of this whole discourse to begin with.

Add to that that while I have seen this talking point before (and found it high key weird), this specific blog (I think I know what you're referring to) does almost nothing but post that same sentence under every relevant post they can find -  which is a tactic I last saw with a blog that was either a psyop or the world's most incomprehensible tanki (they were active around the 3rd of October and reblogged almost every German Reunification Celebration post with a dumb oneliner about 'reunification in the wrong direction' and the rest of the blog seemed dedicated to semi-comprehensible disinformation screeds concerning different former East block states). By which I mean: whether this really is a psyop or not doesn't really matter, because it operates like one, imo. It does almost nothing but seed a very specific soundbite, and it is one that we ought to be suspicious of.

If these a psyops (or something comparable, I'm unsure which word is appropriate in this situation), I wonder how many more of these blogs there are (that operate transparently and spam-like like this), since I found two without actually looking in just one month now

Yeah, they can shut up lol. There's five pages of what NB stands for here: https://www.abbreviations.com/NB
