Here's a list of anime that I think are underrated. This list is based around my own tastes and preferences. I might add to this list at any time.

(The Weeb Ass Shit scale ranks anime on three criteria. A high W, or "Weeb" score means that the show incorporates a lot of anime tropes or elements of Japanese culture that might be confusing to someone not familiar with them. A high A, or "Ass" score means that the show is high in fanservice or other sexual content. And a high S, or "Shit" means that I think that the show is high quality.)

Genre: Horror/Suspense/Supernatural
Episode Count: 22

Elevator Pitch: In a small Japanese town, a mysterious plague starts sweeping the village, killing its inhabitants at alarming rates not long after a mysterious new family moves into the Western castle up on the mountain.

Unsurprisingly, it’s vampires.

This anime uses its large cast of characters and isolated setting to the fullest, showing us a variety of reactions to the supernatural menace, which really creates a sense of horror, showing how every possible response one could think of having is for naught, as the horror builds and builds before a crescendo of violence at the end where no one is innocent and no one is safe.

This is my current favorite anime.

gundam: the witch of mercury (3 episodes in):

Thinking about doing the "unpopular positive opinion" xkcd challenge for anime, using MAL scores. How hard this is depends on what criteria you use.

"Below an 8" is very easy- basically every show I genuinely like (unless it's super popular) is rated in the 7-7.8 range.

"Below a 7" is kind of medium difficulty- for me a lot of stuff that fits here is older BL/shoujo that not a lot of people are fannish about anymore, anime adaptations of otome games/idoltrash, and, weirdly enough, Otherside Picnic. I imagine it's easier the more obscure your tastes are.

"Below a 6"- now this is real hard mode. I mean, I'm the kind of deranged pervert who unironically enjoys Diabolik Lovers, but most people are probably going to have trouble with this one unless you're into obscure 80s OVAs (one of the only other things i like that's below a 6 was Kimera) or specific kinds of weird fetish porn. Anyone else is kind of screwed here.

EDIT: oh fuck i forgot about the "had to have come out/had to have first watched it when you were an adult" shit. that makes this harder.

it's interesting that history otaku gacha personification stuff made for guys tends to focus on more recent history (kancolle, azur lane, girls frontline) while stuff in that same genre made for girls focuses on older stuff (touken ranbu, senjushi, bungou to alchemist)

watched the latest video by a certain youtuber and i think that any bl fan of a certain variety has That Series that they wish could be legally brought over and are perpetually cursing cowardly localization companies who have explicitly said "yeah we won't bring it over because it's TOO CONTROVERSIAL"

if i've got any bl fans of that variety i'd like to hear what your That Series is.

The thing you need to know about my anime consumption habits is that I am every single kind of terrible anime fan at once. I'm the basic bitch that gets stupid hype over Dumb Shonen Boys Punching Each Other, I am the cringe 13 year old boy who likes it when the titties go boing boing, I am the cringe 13 year old girl who likes it when the pretty boys kiss, I am the pretentious manga reader who recs you stuff you've never heard of, I am the shoujo liker who will eat up the most toxic and unhealthy of relationship dynamics, I am the seinen liker who enjoys the edgiest and stupidest of trash, I am everything you fear and more.

it is Actual Homophobia that my funi account is in Gay Baby Jail and i can't watch visual prison because from everything that i've seen the show is basically the contents of, like, 40% of my brain turned into an anime
