i love the sbassa-verse b/c i can take the natural “why don’t they just TALK TO EACH OTHER” impulse and then show endless scenes in which people talking to each other has not made things better and in fact has made things worse

May. 31st, 2021 05:01 pmafter the Absolute Hell that has been trying to wrangle the splintered silver timeline into shape i have decided that so beautiful and so stubbornly alive (the hayashi hitomiverse has a name now!) will take place unmoored in natural time. i will not waste myself worrying about years and ages other than "there is some age-related fuckery going on with the main characters" and "this work does not take place in CURRENT_YEAR"

having trouble with conversation in translation (the New Fic which is a pretty girl prequel) because while pretty girl had a lot of subtext and so does conversation in translation, and both of these fics have the same Point (hayashi yoshiki is a deeply closeted transgender woman), i feel like in pretty girl the subtext wasn't that Point, it was more the specific details of how exactly the interplay of internalized transmisogyny/severe physical dysphoria Works in conjunction with each other
but in conversation in translation, the entire Point of "hayashi yoshiki is a deeply closeted transgender woman" IS the subtext that plays off of the text of hide's whole Thing and the interplay of their own Issues forms the Point of the fic, except that if you don't get the point of "hayashi yoshiki is a deeply closeted transgender woman" then the whole fic just looks like yoshiki being and asshole to hide for no reason which is. not the point.
i think what i'm worried about is cis people. when i was writing pretty girl i didn't think about how cis people would perceive the fic or think about it or respond to it at all, so the fact that all of the responses on the fic that i got were from cis people was Weird because i wasn't thinking about that at all!
i guess i'm saying that what i really need to do is to try and forget about the existence of cis people.

you have it being a triad between two binary trans people of the same gender with at third nb member who has the same ASAB as their partners
you have person a- a gay trans person who has a very masculine gender presentation who's the most outwardly normal of the group
you have person b- a loud flamboyant m-spec genderqueer person with dyed hair who uses humor as a coping mechanism to distract from their many Issues and they also came to trans identity with much less fuss than their partners
and you have person c- a very femme blond(e) who wears their Issues on their sleeve, chief among these Issues being a deep-seated sense of self-loathing over their transness
