Reading a Pathfinder fic, and it does a good job of establishing how tribalism, religious conflict, and totalitarian governments lead to some races being viewed as “the bad ones” despite none being inherently evil.

Reading the reference materials it links to, and this shit sounds obscenely racist. “This volume offers an indispensable analysis of the most vicious killers of all – orcs. Born and bred for war, they are an awful, brutish, violent species and, despite their constant infighting and backstabbing, their horde armies remain a dire threat to all races.”

I've been meaning to edit my sticky intro post and finally got around to doing that. I figured during the Snowflake Challenge would be a good time to do a bit of housekeeping with there likely being an influx of people visiting my blog. It's mostly the same info in a different format, but I also added my Storygraph link there. Not sure if anyone here uses it that much, but that's the place to go if you're interested in stalking the BL I read lol. I haven't been reading much else lately.

I haven't picked up any games these past few days (other than Genshin) in favor of writing or trying to do adulting tasks. I've been feeling a weird mix of anxious and lethargic over the past week. I'm probably a bit depressed since I don't have much reason to be outside on my days off. My brain prefers to be busy, I think. Things will change when spring semester starts, which I'm also nervous about. My last community college class is at an unfamiliar campus, so I need to take a trip down to it sometime before my class starts to find where the classrooms even are. I'd rather not make myself panic trying to find the right room on day one.

Also, I get my tattoo tomorrow so I'm mentally preparing myself to be in pain for a couple hours straight. It will be smaller than my previous ones so I'm hoping I don't get tattoo flu this time. Getting the tattoo will probably feel cathartic though. Body mods always give me a mental health boost because they're a special interest of mine.

So we were intressted in plurality from a young age. We didn't know the words for it, let alone that it was that which we were intressted in. But ever since we knew of Jekyll & Hyde stories, we were intressted in "what if they were more morally complex?". Yes this often ended up looking like making Jekyll the bad guy while Hyde was good. But often as well were stories we made where they were both hurting, both needing of help and acceptance.

There were stories which didn't intend to portray plurality, even outright said it wasn't about it. But in a world where multiple people in the same body is usually treated like a horror story; stories like Sanders Sides & Inside Out, where such a thing was treated neutrally if not positively? They felt like a breath of fresh air we didn't understand we needed.

Though we only discovered that we were a system properly after we became adults. There was a server were we where, for the first time in our lives, knowlingly interacted with a system. It made us realize that plurality could be, real, happening to people who did jobs and school and had friends and things they enjoyed.

Yes we knew of D.I.D. before-hand, but it felt far away, only a thing that distressed, discribed in ways that could NEVER apply to us. But here they were, plural system after plural system (cause we've found out that like queers, plural systems draw eachother out), whom just, existed, who could feel more then suffering, who lived.

When some of our headmates interalized this, they demanded to be known.

Now, this distressted the then host Henry a lot. Mostly because he didn't want to fakeclaim. But also because he was afraid of being crazy, of being incapable of knowing what was happening in his head. But as we realized across our time accepting ourselves: to seek out help is to self-diagnose in the first place. That people will find reasoning after reasoning to be cruel regardless. We needed to be reconized as ourselves to some degree, cause it was hurting us to deny it.

Notes for Pinch Hitters

Heaven Will Be Mine is a visual novel that takes about 6 hours to play through all the routes.

Sha Po Lang is a novel, that in print takes up five volumes, to give a sense of the size of it.

Vampires SMP is a multi creator youtube series, and you would only need to see one creator’s POV to have enough information to write fic. Each series is around eight episodes of 40-120 minutes long.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a computer rpg that takes about 80 hours to play.

2025 stole my baby, Harley, and in the end, left us with just four foster fails, most of them special needs (and emotional scars and a resolve to not foster any longer):
* Expert Hider, aka Heidi, aka HooHoo. Tortie with very high anxiety (and a flea allergy). She's doing better with so few cats in the house, but she's still wound tighter than an eight day clock most of the time, even on meds.
* Habenero, aka Moonpie, aka Sheldon. Very Orange - we love him, but he's dumb as a brick
* Manicotti, aka Cooter. Tuxie (Burnt Orange) with cataract.
* Sandy Claws. Dilute Tuxie with dwarfism.

Other than Heidi, the cats are much more attuned to my wife. Heidi has decided I am Her Human and she won't even go to breakfast/dinner if I don't carry her out to her bowl.

I want to write a full thing on doubt and plurality another time, but seeing some posts around here has lit a fire under my tail to at least ramble about our experiences with it.

Long story short: we're at the point where we don't really experience doubt anymore, but it wasn't always like that. Over a decade in the making, by this point.

My major project for the last couple of months has been a zine about some of my recent personal experiences. Lately, I’ve been feeling stuck trying to continue it.

I’ve previously mentioned on this blog that I struggle with things like identity and keeping in touch with people. While working on these things, I started putting together notes on the ideas that have been useful to me. The result was something with enough overlap and recurring points that I felt able to connect it into a model that roughly covers everything I’ve found effective.

Finding ways to put the model into practice has been helpful. However, since many of the concepts are related to plurality, neurodivergence, and queerness, I found myself in awkward positions trying to explain my experiences to people.¹ I figured it may be a good idea to compile these ideas into a single reference text. So, I started a zine.

Writing the zine has been difficult. The further I get into it, the more doubtful I am that it’ll be of any use. I started with some confidence because I knew that many of the guides I had been using before felt lacking to me. There were things I knew I wanted put into writing. After actually planning this thing out, I now feel overwhelmed by how much I don’t know, including whether putting this in a format for distribution is worth the effort. Even though there are a million self-help guides out there, and I’ve been helped by writings similar to this one, I feel like this project is a childish thing to be working on.

I want to continue this project despite my doubt. I know that I’m still proud of my first zine even though I consider it highly flawed. It seems likely that this zine will end up similarly: Even if the process is difficult, I’ll learn from it and be proud that I made something. I’m less willing to bet on other people being interested in it, but there’s a chance for that, too. I hope trying to focus on this being helpful for myself before worrying about readability or distribution will keep me motivated. I’d still like to get a sense of who I should consider sharing the zine with when the time comes, but the main priority is making sure I actually write it.

My kitties <3 Waffles (L) and Jack (R).

Jack will be 12 this year, he's very much our forever baby. He's had some bad luck losing kitty friends over the years, and he loves Waffles (his emotional support kitten) soooo much. She gives him a level of safety and comfort, that he is out and visible all the time, when he used to hide a bit. He is a total lush for love and he is a cat whose belly you can rub, he insists, pay the Jack tax when you walk by!

We got Waffles close to my birthday in 2023 as an 8 week old, I can't believe she's over 2 years old now. She's more of a critter than a cat lmao. She's all fluff and no brains, but has started seeking more physical affection which makes me melt. She's sensitive, only likes her ruff and face being pet but she goes limp like a ragdoll when you pick her up and she is sooooo soft.

It's winter where I am and they sleep in the bed with us every night. Some mornings I'm woken up to them wrestling on top of me lol or Waffles' grooming/suckling Jack's shoulders.

I love them <3
