The best part of writing trans!character fanfic or playing around with headcanons is figuring out what bizarre mental contortions the characters in question have wound themselves up in with regards to gender. It's always great.

(some of my favorite ones are "ray blanchard was completely right about absolutely everything and the fact that i can't stop staring at women's chests is simply natural gay male jealousy over their ability to attract women", "the only people who actually enjoy sex are receptive partners, the only reason all men aren't gay bottoms is because of societal disapproval", and "as a hyper-paranoid supercriminal who doesn't want to be discovered, i'll simply transition to female! women are less likely to be criminals so this makes perfect sense and i don't know why everyone doesn't do it, must be a sign of my super-genius-tactical-prowess!")

with all due respect, some trans people are, in fact, fucking stupid. this is not unique to trans people, every decent-sized group of people will have a subset of ones with terrible ideas, but nonetheless this remains true.

also when people listen to me i would much rather prefer it to be because my ideas are good on their own merits than because of my identity.

Theory:

The well-known predilection of trans women to be himejoshi and trans men to be fudanshi, as opposed to the more normal gender distribution among cis people (cis women are more likely to be fujoshi, cis men more likely to be himedanshi) is a thing that exists.

However, it is not caused by trans people "actually" being cis people of their AGAB, but rather the also well known concept that trans people in general are more likely to be gay/bi/pan/otherwise attracted to the same gender.

Among cis people, the most numerous kinds of himejoshi are WLW, while the most numerous fudanshi are MLM. Trans people are simply following trends that were previously observable among cis people.

i'd like to give my thanks to nonbinary bodysnatchers, robots, aliens, shapeshifters, deities, genetically engineered superbeings, deliberate joke characters, eldritch abominations who exist beyond gender, genderbenders, and other assorted nonhumans!

I am currently in a fandom that has multiple (a word which here means "more than one") trans characters, and me, as someone who writes transfic, is not thinking about writing fic about either of these characters. I am thinking about writing transfic for another character entirely.

And I've been thinking about why that is, and I just realized that I when I write trans characters, I would prefer them to have more personality than "is trans", which the trans characters from INSERT CANON NAME fail. Very, very miserably.

how utterly pompous do you have to be to look at someone's art or memes and go "yes, i am going to decide, from this small example that i, the alpha and the omega of all things transgender, know your exact Gender Situation, and therefore, i will treat you accordingly"

like i'm not in the practice of saying out loud or commenting "ooh a cis/trans/XYZ person wrote this" but i do THINK it and i'm wrong! a lot of the time! whether it be assuming people's AGAB or assuming they're cis when they're actually trans or that they're trans when they're actually cis and i just. can not. imagine doing this FREQUENTLY and getting it wrong ALL THE FUCKING TIME (because these people are running off of "if it makes me feel uncomfy than whoever made it must be cis") and STILL thinking they're right and correct and SHOULD be doing this it's so confusing to me

another gripe with transfic in the sk8 fandom- there are apparently only two (TWO!!!) fics with trans/nb!adam?????? why!!!!! this is a Grand Cosmic Injustice and i WOULD rectify it...

if i didn't already have like twenty other transfics on the backburner. fml.
