Under the cut because holy shit this got long.

PART THE FIRST: GENERAL SOCIETY

In the past, betas were thought of as beings who felt no sexual desire and literally evolved to serve alphas in every way aside from sex (because that was the omega's jobs, and they were too delicate and stupid to do anything else)

That idea has since been replaced with more subtle forms of anti-beta prejeduce, such as the idea that betas "just are more fit for service jobs" and are more naturally talented at them then omegas (but never better then alphas, they can be the waiter, but not the chef.)

The idea that betas are all inherently asexual isn't taken seriously anymore, but "It's a Beta...that FUCKS!" is still a routine part of comedy and beta characters in media are routinely relegated to the "sexless best friend". They rarely are shown to have love interests, and when they do, it's almost always another beta.

Betas are expected to exclusively marry other betas and produce beta children. A beta dating an omega is seen as "stealing" them from alphas, and any beta who dates an alpha gets percived as simply being the alpha's substitute omega, and is pittied accordingly.

In the past, there were formalized systems where beta parents who had alpha/omega children would give up their children to be fostered in a alpha/omega household. This no longer exists, but beta parents with alpha/omega children have an astonishlingly high rate of getting their kids forcibly taken from them because "they don't know what's best for their own child", and these stories rarely have happy endings.

PART THE SECOND: BETAS AND QUEERNESS

Betas who primarily feel sexual attraction towards alphas/omegas are seen as simply greedy, even within MVOT (Omegaverse version of LGBT) communities, it's just that instead of stealing omegas from their rightful alpha partners, they're stealing alphas from their rightful alpha partners.

(An astute reader might notice that in both of these examples alphas are treated as possessing their partners.)

The primary term for "beta who is exclusively attracted to alphas or omegas" is heterosexual. Yes. Heterosexual.

(I just like alternate universes that play up differences between our world and the AU, and hetero being an inherently queer term is because of that.)

A genderqueer identity common amongst queer betas is that of "singlegender", the concept of exclusively identifying as your primary gender (alpha/beta/omega) without a secondary gender ID (man/woman).

Most singlegendered people are betas and the closest equvelent we have in our timeline to singlegender beta identity would be something like an agender identity.

In the past, the term "singlesex" was used, but it's mostly fallen out of fashion.

PART THE THIRD: BETAS AND THE MEDIA

Beta protagonists in action-driven media, or sci-fi or fantasy series, are rare, and tend to be more "He solves crime with his brains!" or "He may not be strong, but he's very skilled!" types. Romantic stories rarely have beta protagonists. It's very rare to see a beta/beta romance at the center of a story, and even rarer to see a beta/alpha or beta/omega romance at all.

A case study comes in the unusually progressive sci-fi show Far Heights, which depicts the female alpha protagonist falling in love with a male beta. There is, of course, ship war bullshit that normally takes place in these kinds of fandoms about how Female Alpha Protag really needs to get with either the cute omega bounty hunter or her female alpha rival because Male Beta Love Interest is too boring and isn't right for her and won't be able to keep up with her self-evident awesomness.

Betas who remark on how the rhetoric used against Male Beta Love Interest is highly problematic and shitty have a tendency to get dogpilled.

So betas are the type of people who get pidgeoholed as "agreeable" and are treated like they don't possess any passions of their own. "Placid", maybe?

I respect your dedication to making fantasy worlds just as shitty and petty as the real world.
