(i'm also following the final season of Furuba and the second cour of Yumori)
Fairy Ranmaru: The premise of another magical boy show, especially one with those extremely-horny-on-main character designs, was really interesting, but sadly, the characters didn't have any substance to them beyond cookie-cutter archetypes and the magical system was basically Every Magical Girl Series from the 90s Onward. It seems to be riding on fanservice alone, but sexy anime men alone does not a good show make. Dropped after one episode.
Burning Kabbadi: Ah, a good old-school sports anime. This one really feels like a blast from the past, back when sports anime were about hot-blooded Very Hetero muscleboys screaming about the Power of Teamwork and Friendship. (i'm not dissing new-school sports anime) This one is Very Formulaic, but it executes on that formula very well, and it's a really cool experience, watching a sports anime about a sport I've literally never heard of before. Currently following.
Backflip!!: And now for some new-school sports anime. Beautifully-animated bishonen having vaguely homoerotic coming-of-age stories while playing a sport? sometimes? You love to see it, and Backflip!! sets itself apart by having some of the most lively animation this season. The characters are all fun and likable (with the main protagonist and his Mytho-clone rival being distinct favorites), and I'm really interested to see how the plot goes. Also, amazing CG for the rhythmic gymnastic scenes. We've come a long way from the days of Berserk 2016. Currently following.
More beyond the cut.
