That whole weird "aesthetics are politics, so forcing someone to change their innate aesthetic sense is both possible and desirable" thing is treating the aesthetics/politics relationship like a kind of sympathetic magic rather than the complex web of influences that it is.

It would be easier all the series/genre(s) that are obsessively promoted by its fans not on their own merits, but as being Not Like Other Series were actually garbage, so that I could feel justified avoiding them out of spite.
