How I rank media (mostly relevant to my MAL numerical rankings but i'm thinking about doing more reviews here?)

Watching this was so excruciatingly boring it made me want to kill myself. Contains absolutely zero interesting or redeeming qualities.

Utterly terrible, zero redeeming qualities aside from the fact that it manages not to be boring. (This is excruciatingly terrible.)

Terrible, but has at least one redeeming quality or interesting feature that saves it from 1 status. (This is terrible.)

The state of being a 3 is an interesting one, as it must have more than one interesting or redeeming quality, but not enough place into the 4 range. (This is terrible, and it might have some potential.) The Tokyo Ghoul Root A anime is a 3.

Highly flawed but interesting, or an otherwise fine/okay piece of media with one or two utterly horrible qualities. (This is terrible, and I think it could be better.) Anime that fall victim to the Original Anime Curse are usually a 4, such as Wonder Egg Priority, Mars Red, and Charlotte.

The bare minimum to be considered watchable. Does nothing obviously wrong, but does nothing obviously interesting or unique either. (This is okay.) The Solo movie is a 5.

Has qualities that make me positively inclined towards it, but has heavy flaws that keep it from exercising its true potential. (This is okay, but I know it could be better.) Free! Dive To The Future is a 6.

Now we've gotten to a point where the positive qualities start overtaking the negatives. A 7 has flaws, sure, but while noticeable, they ultimately do not stop the work from being interesting or enjoyable. (This is good, but it has some flaws.) Re:Main and Fire Force are 7s.

An utterly exemplary example of its genre. It exemplifies all of the strengths of its genre, and what flaws it does have are somewhat inherent to its genre. (This is good.) The Idolish7 anime is an 8.

Uses its genre as drapings in order to become its own unique thing. Transcends its genre and becomes something that stands outside of it, utterly unique and on its own terms. (This is remarkable) Blue Lock transcends sports anime, Smells Like Green Spirit transcends BL, Chainsaw Man transcends shounen fighting series, and the original 12 episodes of Madoka Magica transcend magical girls. A 9 is not without flaw, but one has to look hard to find one.

Extraordinarily rare. A work completely without flaw. A unicorn. (This is flawless.) Some say it does not exist.
