First time getting jumpscared by the OG LiveJournal posting of a fic I've already read on Ao3! Very surreal experience, honestly.
(Fic is The Dragon Saga, for the curious, and I'm absolutely going to be going into it in detail when I write that meta about Megumi's treatment in Gackt/Hyde stuff, because the author does some interesting stuff with her.)

I've now seen "running away to have a secret gay wedding in Canada" as a plot point in multiple fics by different authors. I think it's really charming when you see a fic that could have only been written at a specific time (like that one fic I found about a still-living Atsushi mourning Issay's death) or that is so clearly of its era.

I love fandom drama. I love tales of deception. I have found a truly delightful little story for you all that incorporates both.
More detail at this link, but an author, who was both into Die/Kaoru (Dir en grey) and the TV show Prison Break, was apparently maintaining two different identities for the purpose of taking fics written for one fandom by other people, changing the names, and publishing them as fanfics for the other fandom. When both fandoms realized what was going on, they deleted both journals and fled fandom.
My absolute favorite quote to come out of this whole ordeal is this, from a summary post describing some of the signs in the fic that was plagiarized.
Die being built like a brick house construction worker. My limited understanding of that fandom is that would not be a reasonable description of Die.
We only ship twinks here, sire.

I am cataloguing every single comment I see about The Horrible Scourge of Diru Fujos Writing Toshiya As A Teenaged Girl for the inevitable Fanlore article. Example!
I'm not sure if this should be under warnings but...my Toshiya isn't going to look anything like the standard fanfic Toshiya. That means he isn't going to be wearing skirts or mascara, his major pastime will be making music rather than shopping, and there will be very little giggling or other girliness (seriously folks, when I saw them he was wearing motorcycle boots and looking generally very dude-like). sauce 4 m's reference
