This Doesn't Really Have A Point, But Whatever

A bunch of people are talking about their first experiences with antis, and it's always Voltron or Gravity Falls or Osomatsu-san, which is weird because I never see anyone talking about MadoHomu antis.

I mean, I know WHY, it's because the Tumblr fandom basically died around six months after Rebellion came out, but it's weird that I never see anyone talking about it, because it's a perfect example of how Tumblr treats F/F ships; flattening them until they're nothing but "uwu pure lesbians", ignoring every single aspect of Homura's character that might paint the ship in a less than perfect light, because honestly, that's the kind of thing that could be swept under the rug by a fandom.

As long as you're only looking at the original series, that is.

After Rebellion came out, the more possessive and obsessive aspects of Homura's character couldn't be downplayed in the same way that they were used to, and fans fucking turned on the ship. Meta upon meta upon meta about how not only was the way the ship was portrayed in canon an abusive relationship, but this was the first time I really saw the "If you ship this, you support REAL LIFE ABUSE" argument in full force.

Now that I think about it, Homura seems like a good argument for why antis wouldn't recognize real-life abuse. Madoka is the most important person in her world. She will never stop trying to make Madoka happy, no matter what it costs her, those around her, or as we see in the movie, Madoka herself. Shippers of all stripes often equate "pure" with "selfless," so a shipper who insists on purity could easily frame this degree of obsession as touching. But in real life, "I care about you more than anyone else" could easily turn into "if you leave me, you will never find anyone who loves you as much as I do," or for that matter, "I only hurt you because I love you so much."
