Oct. 17th, 2020 10:25 amI just realized that my main general dislike with how trans people are characterized in fanfic can be boiled down to the fact that the loudest voices talking about trans representation in fandom were/are, from what I can tell, a group of very binary, very gender-conforming, very conventional dysphoria-wise, truscum-adjacent trans people who mostly consume transfic to live out their passing fantasies.
And I mean, that's fine! If those stories exist and people get something out of them, then that's great! It's just a problem when that's all the stories, everywhere, and trans people like me (who is not binary, does not have a gender to conform to, has Weird dysphoria that manifests in Weird ways, is staunchly anti-truscum, and finds everything in the "passing fantasy" genre to be weird and unrelatable when it isn't actively offputting) get told, both by trans and cis people, that we're hurting our own communities by writing and consuming things that make us happy.
