I know exactly what you mean about math teachers because I had the same experiences.

I have a half-baked thought about how math is seen as "purer" and more logical than other subjects and also how few non-teaching careers a math degree gets you but I can't get it into words yet.

For one of mine, because she didn’t actually know math. She tried to compensate by making us do a massive, massive list of textbook problems every night. I still have memorized that the area of a circle with a radius of 4 is 50.24, because I had to calculate that for so many problems.
