sad writer learns that you can't write something powered by Vibes alone. sad writer has learned that most writing needs to have Plot and not just Vibes. sad writer has learned that "hnnggg what if shu visscituded mika and he wound up with loads of eyes and spines everywhere and it was torture but also weirdly intimate" is much closer to Vibes than Plot. tragedy of the century.

Date: 2022-09-12 07:24 pm (UTC)I mean there is such a thing as writing simply for the aesthetic -- narrative interest doesn't have to form just from a plot, there are so many scenes in stories and, in fact, whole stories that just describe a vignette of a Mood:tm: that we have whole literary movements based just on it.
If you want to write a Vibe that is just pure description of the fuckening state a character is in, then go for it! You'll figure out how to make it interesting/grotesque/can't-look-away-trainwreck enough somehow :))

Date: 2022-09-13 06:36 am (UTC)"How well can I capture this character's state of mind in this exact situation over these few scant seconds as it happens" is a common writing exercise even :D and fandom has been full of drabbles and ficlets that are just written For The Aesthetic, so you're in good company.
