Funny story:
So, when M was living in Texas, every single school authority simply had No Goddamn Idea how to pronounce their last name properly, and this was a horrible source of embarrassment and cringe for them.
Thing is, everyone who mispronounced M's name did so in exactly the same way- they pronounced what was supposed to be a long vowel as a short vowel. And when M was learning about the difference between short and long vowels in elementary school, they got a great idea.
See, because that little spelling chart on the wall had little symbols on the top to distinguish between the short and long vowels, that meant that OBVIOUSLY every adult probably knew what those symbols meant! And therefore, if M just turned in enough papers with the little long vowel symbol over the offending vowel, then OBVIOUSLY all of the adults would get the right idea eventually and start pronouncing their name right!
(author's note: they did not.)

Date: 2023-03-21 11:12 pm (UTC)My deadname LOOKS really weird in English, but it's just a slightly different version of a common English name, so every time someone would try to say my name, they'd butcher it, I'd correct them, and they'd be like "oh it's like (English name)!"
This annoyed me so much that when I changed my name, "is not similar to any English name" was a requirement LMAO.
