also they should kiss
Oct. 25th, 2022 08:16 pmAt one point I sort of get what people are talking about when they say "mayoi ayase totally isn't a dude version of mikan superdanganronpa2, what the fuck are you people on" because it's not obvious if you're just looking at them rather than disecting them to view their insides but.
from a watsonian level both of these characters have highly traumagenic sexualities that are extremely warped and unusual and that color every interaction they have with other characters, especially early on in the story before more facets of their personality get revealed.
on a doylist level, mikan is influenced by what shitty hack (cishet male) writers think about queer female sexuality- a performance, to be hypersexualized, that exists only for the male audience. mikan's warped sexuality is then a performance, something that only exists for other characters' (and the audiences') consumption, reflected in her hyper-exhibitionism. mayoi, is, alternately, influenced by what shitty hack (cishet male) writers think about queer male sexuality- that it's predatory, corrupting, and scary, something to be targeted at male characters. mayoi's warped sexuality, meanwhile, comes out as predatory advances towards the male cast, something subjected towards the characters.
they're both great and i love them, and this is what i think makes them good genderbends of each other- they're meaningfully different from each other because of their gender and how they're percived by the audience and their creators.
