I remembered one time when I heard some of my female relatives complaining about how terrible shopping for women's clothes was, and then I asked them why they didn't just shop in the men's section instead.

They all looked at me like I'd just sprouted a second head.

Well it really depends on the garment, I know some women buy certain things in the men's section because the stuff there shows less skin or the quality is better, but if we're talking specifically about jeans... It's probably because of shapes? Men's jeans aren't exactly made with people with curves in mind. I never thought about buying men's jeans myself but now that you put the idea in my mind I just hate it lol. Sounds like it'd be hard to find some that wouldn't be uncomfortable or look bad with my bodyshape. Maybe women who are less curvy can shop in the men's section with no issues, but for me I think it'd be a waste of time and even more soul-sucking than regular shopping, so I kinda get their reactions? 😅

(Another possible reason is that a lot of men's clothes are just kinda ugly tbh)

I guess it's also a matter of taste. I actually have some men's t-shirts that I wear regularly. One of them is ~my size~, kinda tight in the chest and hips, not uncomfortable to the point that's unbearable, but still a bit awkward, like I'm inside a tube or something. Then I have a couple that are bigger and they're not tight in those areas, but when I wear them I feel like I'm wearing a potato sack. Which is fine sometimes, but that's not how I want to look like all the time. I vastly prefer the way the women's t-shirts I own make my body look in comparison. They fit and highlight my curves more naturally, something I generally want from my clothes.

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that, even if one can find men's clothes that technically fit and they can wear comfortably, it doesn't mean they're going to like the way their body looks in them 🤔

I agree with shape. The problems I've had with men's jeans are that they're too long, the crotch is set in a way where the fly will naturally stick out and create a crotch bulge, the butt shape is generally not flattering, and men's pants as a whole tend to be way too skinny in the thighs unless you specifically go for an athletic or baggy cut.

You explain it so much better~ but yeah, when it comes to jeans (or pants in general), it's not just about hips, it's also thighs and butt. Also the length, which is something that usually can be fixed if you really want a particular pair, but then it's either extra money or extra work, and it's annoying as hell.

I guess it can be less of a problem with other types of pants with softer fabrics, but jeans are supposed to be a bit more stiff/sturdy (these might not be the best words to describe it but hopefully I got the point across lol) which makes things more difficult.

ironically enough this exact argument is how i got my mom to let me shop in the men's section years before I ever came out. It really is only logical.

For myself, even though my measurements aren't that hard to find in men's jeans, the way they're cut tends to feel awkward on my body, especially through the crotch? I have been known to buy other things in the mens section because of durability, but shopping for jeans is a nightmare. Only thing worse is shorts. Well, okay, any sort of tops are a problem if I'm wanting cute cuz my boobs are in THE most common size, meaning tops my size are ALWAYS SOLD OUT, so when I do find a really cute shirt that's fitted right, I horde that shit. XD I've got several tops that are way out of style but I don't care cuz they're cute and fitted to my boobs and I was able to buy them ... and so rarely ever wear them so I don't wear out the rare cute shirt that fit! XD

(oh no, you've unlocked my inner clothes beast)
