Jan. 4th, 2023 08:29 pmthe argument that you can't ship a pairing in only one permutation and truly ship (as applied to people with strict t/b dynamic preferences) is wild when applied to literally any of my hyper-specific ship preferences. i can say "oh, i only ship naru<>mika or eichi<3<shu" (at least to someone with some knowledge of homestuck quadrants) and have this still be recognized as a valid way to ship those pairings. i can say "oh i only like x/y when it's unrequited" and have that recognized as a valid way to ship.
for christs sake, i only ship eirei in two highly specific contexts (that being the post-post-apocalyptic Omegaverse au where they're in a lavender marriage together and the PMMM crossover where they're ex-magical boy partners who broke apart because of an irreconcilable difference in ideology and now spend all their time trying to kill each other) and precisely none of the reaction i've gotten for that has been "this is fetishizing and you are fetishizing for doing this
for christs sake there are pairings where i do sorta have strict t/b preferences, it's just more useful for me to frame them as "if these characters are not doing some kind of strict power exchange 24/7 kink i am not interested"
but only when strict "i only ship this if x bottoms" comes into play do people completely loose their goddamn minds
